Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter!

It's been a sunny end to an exciting and memorable week. Yesterday was our first Art Day and Exhibition and it was great to see the hall full of children and families enjoying the artwork, created during the day. Today was the hugely important school council elections; many of our children aspire to be part of this group and so today's announcements in assembly will have been eagerly anticipated! We are noticing that children are continuing to look smart - thank you for your support with this. Please remember to write names in jumpers and cardigans particularly as we always end up with piles of 'red' that don't make their way back to their owners.

Unbelievably next week is the last week of the half term; we have Parents' Evening (bookings via Sch.life please) on Wednesday, the 100% Attendance Lunch on Thursday and and Achievement Assembly on Friday. We are also marking 'Dress Up for Downs Syndrome' day on Friday (see below for more information).

Happy Birthday to you..

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to... Xavier, Tyler, Declan and Millie who have celebrated their birthday this week or will be doing, over the weekend.

It is great to see so many children achieving 100% attendance. However, we do realise that there are absences that are unavoidable. We will in the future, consider the reason for an absence and use our discretion to determine whether it should affect your child being acknowledged as a 100% attendee. For example- a hospital appointment that cannot possibly be altered will not affect your child earning a reward. Thank you for your understanding with this. Whilst we are striving for 100%, we will also endeavour to acknowledge that some absences are unavoidable.

We have been rewarding 100% attendance in a variety of ways since the start of term and children are enjoying the extra treats. From Monday 10th to Thursday 20th October, any child who has been at school 100% of the time will be able to sit on the '100% Attendance' table at lunch time on the Thursday.

Slight changes to the school day...

In September, the Government said that all schools must be offering a school day that equated to 32.5hrs over a week and if schools weren't offering that, then they should work towards the 32.5hrs expectation. We have reviewed our timings and in order to be in line with the Government guidance, we need to extend our school day slightly. The new start time will be 8:50am and the finish time will be 3:20pm; these changes will come into effect after October half term. If you have any questions about the change or have opinions that you would like to share and discuss, please contact the school office and we can make arrangements for you to meet with a member of the leadership team.

A message from the Pastoral Team...

Hello to you all from The Pastoral Team, we're nearly there... it's almost the end of our first half term. We hope some of you have taken up a new hobby or are looking forward to learning something new and have been following our 5 ways to wellbeing.

This week is the 5th way to support wellbeing and we are remembering how important it is to give to others. Evidence shows that helping others can also benefit our own mental health and wellbeing. For example, it can reduce stress as well as improve mood, self-esteem and happiness. There are so many ways to help others as part of our everyday lives. Good deeds needn't take much time or cost any money.
Here are a few ideas:
  • Try to do one kind thing each day.
  • Recycle your waste and give back to the environment.
  • Volunteering in your community
  • Helping a friend or family member
  • Raise money for charity
We hope you enjoy giving to others and have a lovely, safe, weekend xxx

Art Day and Exhibition

On Thursday the children took part in Art day followed by an exhibition to celebrate their creations.

The children created self- portraits in the style of a variety of famous artist including street artist Banksy, illusion artist Mary Quant and abstract artist Pablo Picasso.

It was wonderful to see so many of you pop in to see the children’s art work- we defiantly have some budding artists at Crestwood Park.

New Happier Minds Website for Dudley

A new website has been launched to help young people, parent carers and professionals find information about mental health in Dudley borough.

www.happierminds.org.uk

Happier Minds can help you find the mental wellbeing information you need. It also provides information on how to get help urgently for people in crisis.

The website has 3 sections – for young people, parent carers and school based professionals, all sections contain useful support and information.

The young people section for those aged 11yrs and over (secondary school and college), has video resources and useful contacts.

For parent/carers, there is information to help them to support their child and also resources to support their own mental wellbeing.

And finally...

We hope that the sunshine continues over the weekend and that you all have a good couple of days with friends and family. We're looking forward to seeing you back on Monday for the final week of a very busy half term! Take care all!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children's best interests. We work to ensure our children our safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm.  If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
