Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

In our first full week back at school, it has been great to see the children settling back into their routines. In my walks around school, I have seen some amazing learning; including some engaging supersonic phonics sessions, a very inventive science lesson and a geography lesson where children were so keen to recall the continents of the world! Forest school also made a return this week- an area of our curriculum that the children so enjoy. In the words of a year 6 child: 'I think it is key to child development to learn more about the outside world, it's a remarkable addition to our school's curriculum.' More details about Forest School can be found further on in this newsletter. It is also great that this week ended in such a bright and colourful way! The sun shone and our children created the most wonderful array of fruits and vegetables! Thanks go to parents and staff for their support -the photos included below certainly confirm that today was a huge success.

Happy Birthday to you..

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to... Alyssia, Amelia and Cody who have celebrated their birthday this week, or will be celebrating over the weekend.

Healthy Eating Day

What a wonderful sight seeing children dressed in the colour of their favourite fruit or vegetable... staff too! The day was a great hit with children joining in lots of healthy-eating related activities. All classes were involved in a fun fitness session, fruit tasting and smoothie making. There were also a whole host of classroom based activities taking place- please ask your child what they took part in and which was their favourite!

Year 6 radiant like a rainbow in the winter sunshine.

The Smoothie maker in action... these Reception class children think it's great fun!

A message from the Pastoral Team...

A huge thankyou and well done to Daisy in Year 4 for being our first person to complete our mindfulness challenge.  This week we are continuing to take notice.  We often listen to music in the background, like the radio or our favourite playlist but do we really take notice of the music we really enjoy?

CHALLENGE
Why not play a song that makes you feel really happy?  Spend some time listening to it without doing anything else.  Notice what happens in your body as you listen - are you smiling? Does your body feel relaxed? Or does it feel like you're beginning to move to the music? If it does go for it!

After listening, ask yourself:
  • Did it feel different to just focus on the music and nothing else?
  • Did the music bring back any special memories?
  • How do you feel when listening to your favourite song?
Please share your favourite song with Mrs Kennedy or Mrs Priest, house points and a prize for the first children who have taken part in the challenge.  Maybe your song could be played in one of our morning assemblies.  We can't wait for you to share your song.

Have a lovely weekend, sing, dance and look after each other xxx
We have been made aware of Beat which is an online support for eating disorders.  There is a helpline number and useful resources which are all free so we would like to share this with you.

Music Day

Yes! that's right, Its Little Red Riding Hood.
Well done! Emma.

Online Safety

To ensure that you as parents are fully informed about the games that we seem to hear children referencing lots in school, we would like to draw your attention to the information below concerning the game…

 Fortnite

Since its release 2017, the battle-royale simulator – Fortnite, has become ubiquitous in classrooms and playgrounds throughout the world. The game, which features cartoonish renderings of characters, bright colours and non-visceral consequence free violence, has had a mass appeal to children. Each Christmas another draft of young pupils are induced into its overcrowded multi-player lobbies, to the point that there is not a school pupil in the country who hasn’t owned it, begged their parents for it or played it round a friend’s house. As a result, more children than ever are exposed to multi-player chatting with strangers, and financial exploitation via the game’s spend-to-gain-advantage operating style. Allowing children to use real world money to gain perks and costumes. From criminal blackmailing, to the coercion of nude exchanges by online ‘friends’ posing as children, the danger this game presents from a safeguarding perspective is clear. As an added complication, the verbiage surrounding the game used by pupils is near-incomprehensible, frustrating adepts to secure their safety. Fortunately to allow for greater comprehension of reports to staff involving the game, Internetmatters.org has published a guide to understanding the game and its terms. WOW

Your child’s school has chosen to be part of an exciting behaviour-change initiative to encourage more children and their families to walk to school.

WOW – the walk to school challenge is delivered by Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, to help as many children as possible experience the benefits of walking to school.

The pupil-led challenge enables children to self-report how they get to school every day.

If they travel actively (walk/wheel, cycle, scoot or Park and Stride) at least once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It’s that simple!

And finally...

Our first full week done! We were able to reward lots of children today with a treat to acknowledge their 100% attendance for this week and last. Here's hoping everyone can have a healthy and happy weekend. Let's see if we can get 100% attendance in every class next week! I love to set a challenge!

Take care all and I look forward to seeing you ALL on Monday morning!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children's best interests. We work to ensure our children our safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm.  If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
