Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to Year Six's Class Page

The beginning of the end...

Well it's finally here! The end of your time in Primary school is fast approaching, even if it hasn't ended in the fashion we'd all of hoped for! For those returning to our Year 6 bubbles, we've been considering the transition to secondary school and what this may be like. We've also been analysing and rewriting one of my favourite adventure stories within class. You can find the opening chapter below to explore! I hope you are staying safe, happy and healthy.

Induction activities for pupils attending Crestwood Secondary school & Kingswinford Academy

As part of your transition to Crestwood, they've produced this induction link to explore. Whilst on it, you'll find activities under subjects and a virtual tour so why not check it out! If you're not going to Crestwood, you can still take a look at the activities as they are applicable to all year 6 children transitioning to secondary schools this year. Enjoy.

For those pupils attending Kingswinford academy in September the link below will take you to a virtual transition booklet to provide more information about the school, its staff and even a Royal challenge for you to explore! These tasks wil lcertainly be worth exploring I'm sure! You should also be receiving some communciation in regard to your transition soon so keep an eye/ear out for that! Your parent should be sent this soon! I hope you enjoy your first steps towards life at Secondary school!

New writing activity booklet!

Following on from the last activity, here is a new writing booklet by James Walker called "The city of silence." Remember that these activities are designed to be worked on over a long period of time to create a final piece of writing. Take your time on each activity to ensure that your writing is the best that it can be! At the start of the booklet, you'll see that there is a donation page to the Great Ormond street hospital. As a school, we have already made a donation in order for you to access this document and so there is no requirement for your parents to do so unless they wish to of course! I look forward to seeing your writing once it's finished!

Writing whilst at home

Hello Year 6!

I hope you are all well! I've been busy putting together your leavers book and I need your help so I'm setting you a challenge! I would like you all to write a short piece of writing about your time at Crestwood park. This could include what you love about the school, a favourite memory, a favourite trip, things you will miss - the possibilities are endless! Please remember that a lot of people will see these books so try to write something that shows off your writing in all of its glory!

Once completed, you can email them to info@crestwood-p.dudley.sch.uk and I can add them to our class leavers book!

11/05/20 - Maths focus: Week 3 - More fraction work!

Hello children, this week continues with fractions work. Remember that there is a video, an activity and an answer page for each day to check your progress. Try to do one a dayt. Also, don't forget your daily purple mash activities. Missing you all. Mr T

04/05/20 Maths focus: Week 2 - Fractions.

Hello children, this week I'd like you to continue with the White Rose activities provided on the link below from last week - look for "summer term week 3". Remember that there is a video, an activity and an answer page for each day to check your progress. Try to do one a day, although I am aware that there is not an activity for Friday on the website as of yet. Also, don't forget your daily purple mash activities. Have fun and continue to stay safe!

27/4/20 Maths focus: Week 1 - Ratio!

Hello children - this week I would like you to have a go at completing Week 1 of the year 6 home learning page (see link attached) which focuses upon ratio (with some fractions work!) These tasks come with a video to watch, activity to look at and answers for your parent or yourself to check your work. I'm trusting you to not just look at the answers! Each day I would like you to complete one of the tasks for this week - there are 5 activities to have a go at. Good luck :)

27/4/20 - New writing challenge

This resource will allow you to consider doors in a different way... Open the pdf to explore a writing document that will guide you through writing your own story through a host of activities! Good luck and enjoy!

Reading and writing challenge

As you are aware, I LOVE reading and writing and so I'm setting you a challenge! If you visit this web address below, you will find a large amount of downloadable book extracts.

Your challenge is to choose a book, download the extract, read it and then continue the story as if you were the author! Where will your character go? What difficulties may they face? How will they overcome these hardships? Remember, try to take your audience on an adventure!

You might even want to make this book yourself! Create a new front cover, blurb and story to bring to me when we return to school.

I look forward to reading your creations!

What have you been reading recently?

I know it is a particularly difficult time for all of us at the moment but there are some positives to take from Isolation. I have recently been trying to read more (when time allows) and I thought I'd share a book that I finally finished! I brought this book at Chirstmas, thanks to a kind voucher from Evie and her family, and I finally finished it late last night! I'm planning on finishing my next two books over the course of the next few weeks as a challenge to myself. SO, I'll set you the same challenge! Can you find a book and set yourself a target time to read it in? To quote William Nicholson "We read to know that we are not alone..."

Vocabulary building Crosswords

I will be uploading vocabulary crosswords for you based on your year 5/6 word list. All you have to do is match the clue/definition to the word and then see if it fits into the crossword. Sorry that they are a bit blurry but I had to enlarge them for you! Have fun.

Mathematical challenges

In this section, I will be posting mathematical challenges for you to have a go at. Some of them you may be able to do practically if you have the resources at home to do it! If not, just have a think about it. Just click the dates to reveal two problems! Have fun :)

Our local area study

As part of our local area study, I've made a text and some questions for you to have a go at which discusses the importance of canal systems to the Black Country. There is a short task for you to continue to find out as much as you can. Good luck :)
