Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for all year 4 pupils registered at state-funded maintained schools, special schools or academies (including free schools) in England.

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

Schools must administer the MTC to all eligible year 4 pupils between Monday 5 June and Friday 16 June 2023.

Below I have included a link for additional guidance you may wish to read.

If you have any questions regarding the test please do not hesitate to ask.

How you can help you child prepare...

As well as continue practice in school to prepare the children as best we can for the check there a things that you can support with at home.

TTRS is a fantastic resource for the children to use to prepare. It is important that time is spent on TTRS daily to practice those times tables.

A simple activity would be recall games. Ask your child on the walk to school, in the car or when you are shopping a variety of times tables questions and time how quickly they are able to answer.

Below I have attached a variety of paper resources that could also be used at home along with further guidance and help on teaching times tables.
