Our PE Curriculum Vision

Physical education is at the heart of all we do at Crestwood Park and we endeavour to maximise opportunities for all our children so they become physically active young people. Opportunities to achieve this are found within our PE curriculum, within extracurricular activities, across our school environment and through links with our local secondary schools and wider community.

At Crestwood Park we aim to provide children with the opportunity to participate in, compete in and enjoy a wide variety of school sport. Our vision is to create a positive environment in which all of our children feel involved, engaged, challenged and safe. We strive towards helping our children develop their physical ability, tactical knowledge, leadership capacity, fitness and team work.

In our school we want our children to be proud of what they achieve and we encourage our pupils to develop values in in PE that support them in their academic work. These values include determination, honesty, passion, respect, self-belief and teamwork – all of which are at the heart of our schools ethos. Our curriculum aims to develop these values, along with the qualities of hard work, commitment, self-discipline and resilience. The aim is for these personal qualities to be applied in all aspects of school life, including in pupils’ academic studies, whilst having positive effects on behaviour and attendance.

Implementing this vision involves providing our children with coaching opportunities; Sports Ambassadors, Playground Buddies and inter-school competitions help to develop their love of sport. By listening to feedback from peers, our children also learn the importance of self-assessment and how to continually improve. Coaching opportunities also help children to follow their interests in a variety of sports.

During PE lessons, activities are planned so that they are accessible for all children. Planning activities for all children can include visual prompts, personal activities, extra support can also be given by adults within the classroom when necessary. The gems can often be achieved by taking more of a verbal approach within the lesson to ensure all children are able to achieve the same learning goals.

We are aware that not all our children have the opportunities outside school to participate in and develop a love of sports so we aim to provide as many experiences as we can that will encourage children of all abilities to develop a strong skill set. However, it is not only our children we tailor our curriculum towards, we are also passionate about encouraging adults and families as a whole to participate and enjoy sports to develop their fitness, health and wellbeing. At our school we understand the value of supporting family units and where possible we encourage parents and other family members to take part in activities with their children.

By the time our children move up to secondary school, we aim for all our children to have gained a strong understanding of fundamental movements and skills along with knowledge of more specific sports. Additionally, we want all our children to experience how it feels to represent the school at a competition, tournament or a sporting event.

We believe our PE curriculum will help Crestwood Park children to become grounded, hard-working, confident, well prepared for the next stage of their education and life-long lovers of sport.

Please read our skills progression documents below which demonstrate how we ensure we have the highest expectations of chidren's progress and attainment as they move through our school. (The document for 'dance' is on its way!)
