Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

I can't believe we're at the end of another week! January will soon be at an end...and hopefully some of the cold and damp weather too! I hope you can appreciate that in these cold and wet months, your children may come home with slightly muddy shoes and clothing, but we always endeavour to keep this to a minimum. However, we are also really in support of the children getting outside in the fresh air and making the most of our outside areas. In such a technically dominant world, we are keen to promote a love of the outdoors and to develop all children's talents. Speaking of talents, our Talent Show was simply amazing last night, and another example of how our children really do us proud. I have had lots of positive feedback and you can read what our Chair of Governors thought of it below!

Happy Birthday to you..

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to... Danielle, Emma, Harry and Jacob who have celebrated their birthday this week, or will be celebrating over the weekend.

A message from the Pastoral Team...

Mrs Kennedy and myself have been so excited to hear how you have made a change this week in our 'take notice' challenge.

Congratulations go to Sara Yr 5 and Leah Yr 3 for being the first to share them with us.

We're changing it around a little this week. Our challenge is for you to 'take notice' of how you are feeling.  We all get, sad, worried, nervous or angry this is perfectly normal and is what is part of being human.  Taking notice of our feelings is so important, so that we can hit the pause button and make time to do something to regulate ourselves.

If we have coping strategies this allows us to manage our 'big' emotions and  be able to deal with a situation better.

Here are some things you can try:
  • Take a brain break Too much information or too many things at once, can stress you out.  So for example if scrolling though social media or watching the news makes you feel more anxious or overwhelmed, have a digital detox, switch off your phone or device  for an hour.  Go for a walk, bake, read a book, do a jigsaw puzzle, laugh with a friend or family member - whatever it is that you enjoy to give you brain a break.
  • Focus on positives it is ok to feel sad or worried, to help support this practise mindfulness, concetrate on the present, the hear and now.  When we worry a lot about the past or future it is easy to forget all the good things.

Music Day - Next Wednesday

Celebrating our Children's work

Every week we would like to celebrate a piece of work which has been created by our children. If you child produces work at home that you would like to share, please send it in to us at info@crestwood-p.dudley.sch.uk

For our big write this week, every class wrote a diary entry from last terms learning.

Year 4 wrote from the prospective of an Anglo-Saxon child.

We think Lily did a really good job - keep up the good work!

Flu Catch Up Clinic - Thursday 9th February

For those who have not booked their child in for their flu-vaccination, we have now been contacted by the Flu-Vaccination team and they will be coming back into school for a 'Flu Catch Up Clinic'.

The 'Flu Catch Up Clinic' will be during school time on Thursday 9th February.

As before, you will need to complete the Fluenz E Consent form, for your child to receive the vaccination. Please see below PDF form which will need to be completed by Monday 6th February.

Any children who have not received the Flu Vaccination after this date and it is the parents wishes for them to have it will need to make other arrangements via their Doctor.

Crestwood Park Has LOTS of Talent!

What a show we had last night! It was such a spectacular event on so many counts. Not only was the talent astounding but we even managed to raise some much needed funds for school too! The sale of refreshments alone totalled just over £250! This will always be spent on our children, such as helping to pay for activities such as Forest school. So thank you everyone for your support at the show!

Josh-our Chair of Governors- acknowledged that it was...an incredible showcase of talent, from incredible singing, superb dancing, a fabulous piano piece, an excellent Gymnastic routine and even some thrilling Karate! All who took part should be exceptionally proud of themselves, and the clapping and cheering from the crowd is still ringing in my ears!

School Fundraising - We need YOU!

As you are aware we always go above and beyond in rewarding our children and ensuring their education at Crestwood Park is enriched with extra-curricular activities and new resources for the children to enjoy. However this comes at a cost to the school, and we can only do these extra things for our children with the help of yourselves.

Our school fund relies heavily on income from events and school fundraising which in turn is used to fund all of the extra things we do for our children.

We have put our heads together and we really do need more parents to come forward and help support the school by way of of thinking of fundraising ideas and help to support our fundraising events.

If you are interested and would like to support the school and help with fundraising please email info@creswood-p.dudley.sch.uk.

Rags 2 Riches

Do you have clothes in your wardrobe that you no longer wear, maybe last year’s fashions, or that buy that was too good to leave but it’s not really you after all?

Please help us fundraise by donating your good quality unwanted, re-useable (clean, dry and wearable) clothes and accessories

(please pair and tie shoes together)

Your donations become affordable clothing in other countries - so please do not send poor quality, dirty or wet items, and no duvets, pillows, curtains, books, CDs or bric-a-brac.

STOP and THINK - is it something you’d wear out and about yourself or pass to a friend?

If not, no-one else will want to buy and wear it either, so unfortunately it’s not reusable and can’t go in the bag.

Our collection date is the 23rd March. We thought we would give you as much notice as possible and the half term to have a 'spring sort out'.

We are more than happy to take donations in as soon as you have them! Just pop them into a bag and bring them to the school office.

We will be distributing bags to you all in a few weeks, but wanted to pre-warn you in case you were to have a clear out before then.

No time for PRIME

Could we please ask that children do not bring PRIME into school.

We ask that children bring a clear sports bottle to school with water in or very diluted squash - This has always been our policy and we ask that PRIME drinks and PRIME bottles stay at home.

We are aware that empty PRIME bottles are somewhat of a treasure and would not like them to get lost or misplaced at school.

So to keep everyone happy, School time is PRIME FREE time.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

PLANNED INDUSTRIAL ACTION

The first strike day listed is next Wednesday 1st February. It will always be the intention to keep Crestwood Park open. However, it is not always possible to predict the actual impact on school until the day of the strike. At this precise moment, I am confident that we can open this Wednesday but it is impossible to give definite indications for the future dates. I will always endeavour to keep you as fully informed as is possible.

Keep up the good work!

Have you managed to walk to school this week?

Your child’s school has chosen to be part of an exciting behaviour-change initiative to encourage more children and their families to walk to school.

WOW – the walk to school challenge is delivered by Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, to help as many children as possible experience the benefits of walking to school.

The pupil-led challenge enables children to self-report how they get to school every day.

If they travel actively (walk/wheel, cycle, scoot or Park and Stride) at least once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It’s that simple!

Planned Roadworks

Please see below letter we have received from the local authority advising on planned road works.

Bromley Lane Local Safety Scheme

I am writing to inform you that work will shortly begin on Bromley Lane to implement highway improvements as part of a local safety scheme to reduce vehicle speeds and improve pedestrian safety.

To minimise disruption, the main works are being scheduled for February half term (18th-26th February), however some preparatory works will be required to take place in advance of this. Proposed works are as follows:

· Week commencing 6th February – Temporary two-way Lights near to Lapwood Avenue / Albemarle Rd

· Week commencing 20th February – Road Closure between Rangeways Rd and Tesco Express, followed by Road Closure between Denleigh Rd and Rangeways Rd (Rangeways Rd will remain open)

· Week commencing 27th February – Completion of outstanding work under two-way temporary lights

Access for residents will be maintained where possible and the contractor will liaise with any affected properties in the event of temporary obstructions.

Every effort will be made to keep noise pollution to a minimum however it is inevitable that some inconvenience will be caused. We would ask for your understanding and co-operation to allow these works to be carried out safely.

And finally...

It's Friday again everyone.... and we've ended the week smiling- especially those of us who have the memory of last night's Talent Show in our minds! Here's hoping you are all able to have a lovely weekend and do something that brings a smile to your faces!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children's best interests. We work to ensure our children our safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm.  If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
