Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

This week has been one full of trips- and the sun has shone for all of them! On Monday year 4 had an adventurous trip to Astley Burf, where they took part in lots of activities including: zip wire, high ropes and archery. Year 6 set off to Pioneer on Wednesday and returned safely today. I visited them yesterday and all were in good spirits, enjoying partaking in activities such as: raft building, climbing and caving. Year 1 visited West Midlands Safari Park on Thursday and revelled in seeing the animals and exploring the park and playground! Please see some photos below.

All our classes have now had the opportunity to experience a school trip. They have all been so successful and very well received. It is also great to hear when they return, just how well behaved our children have been. We will continue to subsidise such trips in the future, as we feel they are an essential part of our wider curriculum.

Today saw Reception perform their first class assembly and oh how wonderful it was! We also had the opportunity to say goodbye to Ms Bullas and wish her well as she leaves to have her baby. We are all so excited for her and will be sure to let you all know when baby makes an appearance!

Happy Birthday to you...

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to... Darcie, Boris, Violet-Rose, Nahla, Jakob, Conor, Mia-Louise, Evelyn-Mae who have all celebrated their birthdays this week.

Happy Belated Birthday to Tiana, Zachary and Archie who celebrated their birthday last weekend.

A Message from our Pastoral Team

We hope you have all been able to enjoy a little sunshine this week, it really does benefit our wellbeing.

This week we would like to share a video clip about how to support your child through transitions.  Every child is about to experience transition from one class to the next and as a school we like to be able to prepare our children for this. Their transition morning is coming up on 2nd July, where they will spend time in their new classroom and meet their new team of teaching staff. The children will be able to ask questions to hopefully answer any worries they may have.

However, children experience transitions every day. For example leaving the house to come to school, going shopping, leaving home to visit family or even as simple as stopping play to eat dinner.  Basically transition means to change from one thing to the next. We can support our children throughout their day to help them cope with change.  We hope you find the information interesting and helpful.

As always if you have any worries or concerns please get in touch, we are always here to listen and help, we may not always have the answers but we will try our best to find a solution for you.  We hope you all have a lovely weekend, look after each other, take care, lots of love The Pastoral Team xxx

Year 4 Trip to Astley Burf

This week Year 4 had a fantastic class trip to Astley Burf. It was a jam packed day where the children learnt some new skills. They took part in archery, rock climbing and a high ropes course.

Children showed great resilience, teamwork and courage throughout the day, some children even completed the rock climbing blindfolded!

Even away from school the children displayed their school SPARKS and they were a real credit to our school.

HAF

he Summer Holidays are fast approaching, and we have an amazing range of fully funded activities available for HAF eligible children to book onto.

What is HAF?

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is a government-funded initiative in England that aims to provide support to school-aged children who receive benefits-related free school meals during holiday periods. Here are the key details about the HAF programme:

  1. Purpose and Background:
    • The HAF programme was introduced in response to the recognition that school holidays can be challenging for some families.
    • Research has shown that children from low-income households are more likely to experience social isolation, unhealthy nutrition, and lack of access to organized out-of-school activities during holidays.
    • The programme aims to bridge this gap by offering enriching activities and nutritious meals to eligible children.
  2. Eligibility:
    • The HAF programme primarily targets school-aged children from reception to year 11 (inclusive) who receive benefits-related free school meals.
    • Benefits-related free school meals are available to pupils if their parents are in receipt of qualifying benefits, verified by their school or local authority.
  3. Programme Details:
    • Local authorities are expected to provide the equivalent of 6 weeks’ holiday provision to eligible children throughout the year.
    • The programme includes at least 4 hours a day, 4 days a week of face-to-face sessions.
    • It offers a combination of healthy meals and enriching activities during school holidays (Easter, summer, and Christmas).
  4. Implementation:
    • Since 2018, the HAF programme has been rolled out across all upper tier local authorities in England until 2025.
    • The funding for each local authority is confirmed annually through grant determination letters.
    • The programme covers free holiday provision, including both food and activities.

School holidays can be particular pressure points for some families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children from disadvantaged families:

  • less likely to access organised out-of-school activities.
  • more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health.
  • more likely to experience social isolation.

Free holiday clubs are a response to this issue and evidence suggests that they can have a positive impact on children and young people and that they work best when they:

  • provide consistent and easily accessible enrichment activities.
  • cover more than just breakfast or lunch.
  • involve children (and parents) in food preparation.

Finally...

It has been great to see some sunshine this week. Please remember, if the warm weather continues, to apply sun cream to your child before school and send in a hat/cap and a water bottle.

Can I also remind parents that school footwear needs to be appropriate, even in hot weather, so no open toed sandals please.

Don’t forget that Monday is a non-uniform day in return for your filled Crestwood Cup.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children's best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm.  If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
