Welcome to our Newsletter
Welcome back everyone to our first newsletter of the Summer term. It has been a really settled week in school and the children have all engaged so well with their learning. I was most impressed this week with the respect our children showed our visitor from The Dogs Trust when she visited school to deliver an assembly and workshops. If you are a dog lover (like me!), read on as you and your children may be very interested in the links provided by them. All classes have begun their Local Area Study and we have plans later on in the term for an exhibition and workshops for parents. Infact, we are always keen to involve our families in celebrating what we do in school. Later on in this newsletter you will read about a celebratory event you can attend to mark the King's coronation and an invite to join us for our 'Get Together Picnic'. These are just two of many events happening this term. As always, it is going to be an action packed few months at Crestwood Park, so keep checking the calendar for key dates!
Happy Birthday to you...

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to...Sienna-Rose and Dannii who have celebrated their birthday this week.

Dog's Trust Visit
What a fabulous day we had, with the Dogs Trust workshop, when Claire and Conker visited us yesterday. The children learned a lot about how to behave well around dogs. They were also able to share information about their own dogs at home.
Claire emailed Mrs Brierley afterwards to say:
I just wanted to email to thank you, your colleagues, and your pupils for making my workshops with you so enjoyable - the pupils were such a pleasure to talk to and the staff were so friendly and welcoming!
Claire supplied a few links that may be useful to you and your children:
Learn with Dogs Trust website link that has a wealth of information alongside some activities for the children and their families. https://www.learnwithdogstrust.org.uk/
YouTube channel with cool tricks the children can teach their dogs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjhy4EK80gvK4KNDiQAaFJ9xY9G8BhsSi
A leaflet about building confidence, for those who find dogs worrying: https://www.learnwithdogstrust.org.uk/building-confidence/dt_bcad_leaflet_web%202019.pdf )

Well Being Day 5th May 2023

For the Well-being Day on Friday 5th May we are asking the children to come to school dressed in red, white and blue to acknowledge the coronation of King Charles.
The day will play host to various activities to promote well-being and to celebrate our new King.
At 2.45pm, we would like to invite parents onto the playground (weather permitting) to be entertained by a celebratory coronation performance.
As a tribute to our King, the children will Dance you through the Decades!

ASTHMA UPDATE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
As it is the start of a new term, please can we remind you that all children who are on our Asthma register need to have 2 inhalers, in date and in school. As advised by the NHS we are only able to keep the blue inhaler - reliever medication in school. It is also advised that each child is provided with their own spacer. Please also inform us if any emergency contact information changes or if we need to be made aware of any updates concerning your child's Asthma condition. As always, thank you for your support.

Pastoral Update
It has been so lovely to see you all back in school and to catch up with what you have been up to in the holidays. We believe that looking after our wellbeing is so important and this term we will be concentrating on keeping active.
Keeping active is so important, it improves our fitness, keeps our heart healthy, builds strong bones and muscles and reduces anxiety and supports a good sleep routine. It is recommended that children under 5 need to be active for around 3 hours a day, children aged 5 to 16 for at least an hour a day and adults for around half an hour each day to maintain physical health.
So are you ready for our weekly challenge...
Get out into the world.
Go to the park.
Play football in the garden.
Why not go for a walk, explore somewhere new.
See if you can get a grown up to take a photo of you enjoying one of the above activities which we can share in next weeks newsletter. Send them into info@crestwood-p.dudley.sch.uk or spriest@crestwood-p.dudley.sch.uk Can't wait to see what you get up to, first children to share with Mrs Kennedy or Mrs Priest will receive house points and a prize.
5p Fridays

What a great start to the class budgeting challenge - 5p Friday!
Every Friday we will ask for each child to bring in a 5 pence piece. The children will take charge of counting the money and calculating how much more they need to reach their goal.
The challenge is to raise enough in order to be able to pay for their chosen reward. Please ask your children what their class are saving towards!
This will be a fantastic opportunity for each class to know the importance of budgeting, saving and spending!
There is no obligation for you to contribute, but it would be greatly appreciated!

SCHOOL COUNCIL - Social action project
The school council have been taking part in a social action project. They have decided that the aim of this project is to brighten the days of our local elderly community, particularly those with dementia. This stems from the fact that some of our children have experience of relatives with a dementia diagnosis. They have been working closely with a representative from dementia friends. Some of the older councillors will be visiting The Crystal Gateway, a centre which provides daytime support sessions for people diagnosed with dementia in Dudley.
For part of the session, they will be conducting a craft activity which will involve painting pebbles/shells.
If you take a visit to the beach, please help us, and collect any pebbles/shells then bring them to Miss Obertelli by Friday 23rd June. Thank you!
A message from your HSA
Many thanks to all that attended our HSA meeting last night. We have lots of exciting plans in the pipelines and cannot wait to help raise vital funds for our school children to benefit from and enjoy.
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday 25th September and we would love for you to join us.

Internet Safety Awareness at Home

We would like to draw parents attention to this poster as it contains some very useful information about the the social platforms that we know some of our children access on their devices at home. Unfortunately, at times, this has led to some incidents that have caused our pupils upset, so we do want to make parents particularly aware that many of these platforms do have advisory ages that are above a Primary School age. We hope that you find the information useful, as keeping children safe online should always be a priority.
Finally...
Our SPARKS focus for this half term is KIND and I think it is a quality I see consistently at Crestwood Park.
So for this week's sign off I will leave you with a quote to inspire you over the weekend...
"Kindness is free. Sprinkle it everywhere!"
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children's best interests. We work to ensure our children our safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
