Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

It has been great to see some sunshine this week. It has meant that our children have been able to venture onto the field at breaktimes, which they all clearly enjoy!

We are also in the throes of creating a school garden ahead of the summer. Staff are beginning to put together raised beds and preparing the ground behind the mobile for this.

Today, as part of ‘World Down Syndrome Day’, as well as ‘Rocking our Socks’, all children planted a sunflower seed. These flowers, along with other plants and vegetables will form part of our new garden. Your children have been asked to nurture these initially at home. Mrs Powell has also set a challenge for children to contribute towards other plants and flowers for our garden if possible- please see the ‘Crestwood Park Garden’ section further on in this newsletter for more details.

It really has been a happy week in school, and the year 4 class assembly this morning certainly put a smile on our faces! It was such an amazing performance form the year 4 class scientists who shared a wealth of knowledge about 'sound' with us. Thanks to all involved.

Happy Birthday to you...

Sending Birthday wishes to Daniel, William, Ivie, Molly, Archie and Teddy who have celebrated their birthdays this week or will be celebrating their birthday over the weekend.

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY

The 21st day of March (the 3rd month of the year) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. Every year on March 21st, World Down Syndrome Day is observed to create awareness about Down syndrome.

Rock Your Socks

We all wore our brightest funkiest socks today to symbolise the uniqueness of every chromosome

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY.

Sunflower Challenge

The children enjoyed planting Sunflower seeds today. Just like sunflowers, every child blooms and grows in their own way.

Dudley Book Awards

This week, the Year 6 Reading Ambassadors were invited to attend the Dudley Book Awards.

The event was held at The Summerhill School, and involved other primary and secondary schools.

12 books in 3 categories (Short Reads, Children's, Young Adults) were shortlisted for the event - 8 of which were read by all our ambassadors, before they voted for their favourite.

During the event, we watched videos from some of the authors and actually met two of the authors in person.

B.Ware, the author of Magic can be Dangerous, won the children's category.  All of the Year 6 children met with B.Ware and had their books signed.

This was an excellent opportunity for the Year 6 Ambassadors - inspiring the next generation of authors!

Crestwood Park Garden!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated gardening equipment for school.

This week, the children have started to plant seeds for flowers and vegetables in their classrooms, which will be planted into the garden when it is finished.

To help with this, we would very much like it if the children could get involved in a little growing project of their own at home. This time, we’re asking for children to grow something at home and then bring it in to be planted into our garden after the Easter holidays. It could be a fruit, vegetable, herb or flower, anything at all. This will help kick-start the garden to get it looking as healthy as possible, as well as giving children the experience of growing something for themselves.

Many thanks,

Mr Powell
