Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

Well, it is wonderful to reflect on a full week in school where so many worthwhile events have taken place.

The week began with Science Day and I witnessed some amazing and impressive scientific experiments taking place across school.

On Wednesday, Year 1 visited the Synagogue in Birmingham and Year 6 visited the Jangchub Ling Buddhist Centre. These visits we feel enhance our curriculum to promote an understanding and appreciation of other religions and places of worship.

On Thursday evening, the school came alive with the bright lights and fun of the school disco. The outfits impressed us and so did the dance moves!

Our week ended this morning with a lovely Mother's and Others Day Assembly, followed by a special session back in classrooms. Both parents and children really seemed to enjoy and value the opportunity to get crafty and competitive! The turnout was amazing- thank you to all of you that attended an event that truly put a smile on everyone's faces!

Happy Birthday to you..

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to...Molly, Archie and Teddy who have celebrated their birthday this week, or will be celebrating over the weekend.

FLASHBACK to Science Day!

A message from the Pastoral Team...

It's been so good to see how many children are accepting our wellbeing challenges.

Remember YOU are the most important person, you are extremely unique and have qualities no one else has, so it is vital that you look after yourself. Your mental wellbeing supports your physical health so we all need to take responsibility and look after ourselves.

This week, a big congratulations goes to Sienna in Yr 5. Well done for remembering how to say hello in 5 different languages.

We are following on in our theme to keep learning.  Here's this week's challenge...Communication with others is so important so this week we would like you to learn how to say...

"I love my family and they love me" in British Sign Language.

Can't wait for you to come to us to show us what you have learnt. Don't forget the first children to share with Mrs Kennedy or Mrs Priest will get house points and a prize.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, look after each other xxx

Art Competition

Do you love nature? Do you love to draw or paint? Well, why not combine the two! Our wonderful world is now showing signs of spring - daffodils, snowdrops and budding trees. Robins and squirrels busying themselves in the trees.

We would love for you to take a walk and send us a painting or picture of the great outdoors. Something that makes you smile.

There will be a prize for the one that makes us smile the most! Please send your entries down to year 6.

Mrs Brierley and Mrs Akthar can't wait to see your entries.

CLOSING DATE: MONDAY 17TH APRIL.

WINNERS TO BE ANNOUNCED: FRIDAY 21ST APRIL (in ABC assembly!)

Celebrating our children's work

In Reception, during phonics, Archie has shown lots of perseverance when the work gets a little tricky.

He is our 'Phonics Star of the Week'  - Just take a look at his fantastic writing, they were working on the 'oa' and 'igh' sound this week. Archie used his knowledge of his sounds and wrote some amazing sentences.

I'm sure you will all agree he really is a superstar.

Keep it up Archie.

Rock Your Socks Day - 21st March

Design a National Book Token

This annual nationwide competition encourages children of all ages to share their creativity – and their love for books and reading – by designing their own fabulous gift card.

The winning entrants can bag HUNDREDS of pounds worth of National Book Tokens for the school including, for the overall winner, a £10 National Book Token in their winning design for every child in their class, and the opportunity for their class to visit a bookshop, virtually or in person, to spend their National Book Tokens.

To take part, follow the link to download the gift card template and get your child to design a brand new National Book Tokens gift card – something that would really jump out at booklovers from the till point of their favourite bookshop. A panel of judges will select a winner and runner-up in each of three age categories: up to 8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years.

This year the theme of the competition is ‘Choosing to read’. Children can interpret this any way they like to celebrate and communicate the joy that comes from choosing to read, as well as choosing which books to read.

To enter, children should design a National Book Tokens gift card with this theme in mind – and thinking about what might make their gift card appeal to customers if it was on display in a real shop.

Prizes

FIRST PRIZE in each age range wins:

  • £350 National Book Tokens for the school
  • £100 National Book Tokens for the pupil

All the National Book Tokens prizes will feature the winning designs!

SECOND PRIZE in each age range wins:

  • £200 National Book Tokens for the school
  • £50 National Book Tokens for the pupil

All the National Book Tokens prizes will feature the winning designs!

ONE OVERALL WINNER (chosen from the three first prize winners) will get a £10/€10 gift card in their design for every child in their class, and the opportunity for their class to visit a real bookshop, virtually or in person, to spend their National Book Tokens.

The closing date for entries is Sunday 2nd April 2023. Winners will be announced in May 2023.

5p Fridays!

After Easter, we are going to begin a class budgeting challenge!

Each class will decide on something that they want to buy. (With a value of up to £20)

Every Friday we will ask for each child to bring in a 5 pence piece. The children will take charge of counting the money and calculating how much more they need to reach their goal.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for each class to know the importance of budgeting, saving and spending!

There is no obligation for you to contribute, but it would be greatly appreciated!

And Finally...

When we hold special assemblies and events in school and parents come along in such full support and celebration of them, it reminds me that Crestwood Park is so much more than a Primary School, it really is an extended family. On Sunday we will celebrate our mums and today is St Patrick's Day, so this week I want to sign off with an Irish toast...

May you have all the happiness

and luck that life can hold—

And at the end of all your rainbows

may you find a pot of gold.
