Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

This week has been Children's Mental Health Week and every day in school, the children have been thinking about how they can improve their own mental health by adopting the 5 ways to wellbeing- please ask your children about their well-being flowers! We may well share some with you on next week's newsletter. This afternoon, we also took part in a 'Harmony' event via a live stream with 10,000 other children from across schools in Dudley! Our children certainly adopted the mantra of this event by: SINGING, SIGNING AND SMILING!

Happy Birthday to you..

We would like to say a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to... Alesia, Cooper, Bailey, Rhylee and Daisy who have celebrated their birthday this week, or will be celebrating over the weekend.

A message from the Pastoral Team...

It has been fantastic to hear that so many of you are taking part in our wellbeing challenges each week.

A huge well done to Ashley from Yr 2 this week who was the first to share his photos, capturing 'what's in front of you'.

Ashley enjoyed exploring the outdoors at Bumble hole.

Ok here's for this week's challenge: Spend five minutes either writing or thinking of what made you
G.L.A.D.

G: Something you were Grateful for?
L: Something you Learned.
A: One small Accomplishment.(something you've achieved)
D: Something that brought you Delight.

Good luck, let's see who will be the first to share their challenge ideas with either Mrs Kennedy or Mrs Priest this week.

Well Done Savannah.

Parents Evening - Next Wednesday & Thursday

Parents Evening slots have been available to book throughout this week on the School Life app.

The days available are Wednesday 15th February from 4:00 -6:30pm and Thursday 16th February from 6:00 - 8:30pm.

How to book:

> Open your school life app

> Looking at the menu on the left hand-side scroll down to 'Parents Evening' and select this option.

> A new page will open with the two different dates to select from - choose your date and then select you time slot.

The Book Fair will be back again during parents evening - So don't forget to pop into the SCHOOL HALL once you have been to see your child's teacher to have a look what deals and goodies we have to offer.

Our uniform stand and items of uniform will be on offer.

There will also be a competition to 'Guess My Owner!' Our staff have submitted photos of their dogs, so you can pick up a sheet on the night and fill in which staff member you think the dog belongs to! Whoever gets the most correct guesses will be put into a draw to win a plush toy! It will be £1 per entry.

Wear what you love day - Tuesday 14th February

We are inviting the children to come in to school wearing what they love on Tuesday 14th February.

Do they love wearing their pyjamas, dressing up as their favourite superhero or just wearing comfy leggings and a hoody. All we ask is a donation of £1 for our School Fund.

As always children do not have to take part and can come in their usual school uniform. Please ensure they come in something suitable for the weather and with a coat too.

Teachers 2 Parents - Allergens list not scrolling

It has been brought to our attention that some parents seem to be having issues with being unable to move past the allergerns list that pops up when trying to book school dinners. We have spoken with the SchoolMoney support team who are working on the problem and will raise the issue with their app developer team.

In the meantime please try the following temporary work-around:

- Go into the Dinner booking app and select a week - Select one meal on one day - The word 'Allergies' will light up in red -- tap this- Un-tick the box that says 'Show Allergy Warnings' and press OK- Make the selections for the rest of the days- Click on the + icon to add it to the basket

That will stop the allergy pop-up from preventing the parent from proceeding with their bookings going forward, but they can still tap the word 'Allergies' if they want to view the information. The App should remember this setting for next time they try to book.An alternative work-around is for the parent to use the Eduspot.co.uk parent log in link on their phone instead of the app for the time being.

If this does not work - please pop into the school office or call us to book your child's meals.

Scarlett Fever/Strep A

Latest update

The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) continues to show that scarlet fever infections remain high for this time of year. Although the weekly number of notifications has fallen since the peak in December, cases are still fluctuating at a level above what we usually see during this time of the year. UKHSA will continue to closely monitor the incidence rate.

The symptoms of scarlet fever include:

  • sore throat
  • headache
  • fever
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • a rash that feels like sandpaper to the touch

The rash usually develops after 12 to 48 hours, typically on the chest and stomach first, then rapidly spreading to other parts of the body. On white skin, the rash looks pink or red. On brown and black skin, it might be harder to see a colour change, but you can still feel the sandpaper-like texture of the rash and see the raised bumps.

Contact NHS 111 or your GP surgery if you suspect you or your child have scarlet fever so you can be assessed.

The number of weekly notifications of invasive group A strep (iGAS) in children has slowed. While iGAS is still very rare, notifications remain relatively high in children compared to what we typically see. There has been a rise in older age groups in recent weeks and as with previous seasons, over recent weeks the majority of iGAS cases continue to be in those aged over 45 years.

Dr Sarah Anderson at UKHSA said:

Although the number of scarlet fever notifications we are seeing each week has significantly fallen since the peak in December, the bacteria that cause the infection are still circulating at high levels for this time of the year. Please contact NHS 111 or your GP if you suspect you or your child have scarlet fever – with symptoms such as fever, sore throat, difficulty swallowing and a sandpapery rash.

Early treatment of scarlet fever with antibiotics is important to reduce the risk of a more serious infection and transmission to others. Children should stay off school or nursery and adults should stay off work for 24 hours after antibiotics have started.

Most winter illnesses can be managed at home and NHS.UK has information to help parents look after children with mild illnesses. Contact NHS 111 or your GP surgery if you think your child is getting worse, for instance, if they are feeding or eating less than normal, are dehydrated, have a high temperature that won’t go down, are very hot and sweaty or seem more tired or irritable than normal.

It is important that we continue to help stop the spread of all germs in the community and to vulnerable groups. Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue, and keep your home well-ventilated. If you are unwell with any infection you should avoid visiting vulnerable people, and stay away from school, nursery or work if you are unwell with a fever.

Rags 2 Riches - Keep your donations coming!

Do you have clothes in your wardrobe that you no longer wear, maybe last year’s fashions, or that buy that was too good to leave but it’s not really you after all?

Please help us fundraise by donating your good quality unwanted, re-useable (clean, dry and wearable) clothes and accessories

(please pair and tie shoes together)

Your donations become affordable clothing in other countries - so please do not send poor quality, dirty or wet items, and no duvets, pillows, curtains, books, CDs or bric-a-brac.

STOP and THINK - is it something you’d wear out and about yourself or pass to a friend?

If not, no-one else will want to buy and wear it either, so unfortunately it’s not reusable and can’t go in the bag.

Just pop them into a bag and bring them to the school office or give them to your child's class
