Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

Well, today has been Music Day in school, and it was also the day that we received confirmation of our success in achieving the Music Mark Award.

The e-mail acknowledging this read...

We are delighted to inform you that your school has been invited to receive a Music Mark Award for 2024/25 in recognition of your positive approach to music across the school and your engagement with Dudley Performing Arts.

A school engaging in music making can usually see marked improvements in behaviour, listening and focus, high self-esteem of pupils means less bullying, improved attainment, and higher school attendance. A musical school is always a happy school with a positive welcoming atmosphere and high expectations.

How appropriate too that this week we have been championing supporting mental health. It was great to see the children wearing their 'happy' colours today!

Music Day

Reception's music artist today was Joni Mitchell. The song they listened to was Big Yellow taxi. Reception worked together to make a beautiful yellow taxi collage.

Year 1 found out all about Elton John - they even created their own fancy glasses just like Elton's!

Today, Year 2 have explored Nina Simone, an American singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned styles including classicalfolkgospelbluesjazzR&B, and pop. Nina was passionate about empowering other people through her music and fought for the equal rights of everybody. In year Two, we have compared and contrasted her songs, created drawings to represent her music and read about her life. We then completed a quiz to see what we had learnt. Next week, we aim to write a biography about her life.

Year 3 have been learning about David Bowie. They completed a quiz about his life, designed some extravagant clothing for him and listened and danced to his music.

Year 4 looked at the amazing work of Aretha Franklin.  They explored the genre of soul music and created some fantastic flip books all about Aretha! Their favourite song was 'Say a little prayer.'

Fisherman's Friends were the musical group who Year 5 studied today.  The class learnt about sea shanties and even composed their own. Get them to show you!

In Year 6, the class studied Amadeus Mozart. They learnt about his life and legacy, listened to some of his most famous pieces of music and even played along with instruments and body percussion. Our very own musician, Molly, played her guitar - thank you for sharing your musical talents with the class.  They ended the day with the fantastic drumming workshop.

Thanks to the drumming teacher- Ilias- who led the drumming workshops for every year group today.

Happy Birthday to you...

Sending Birthday wishes to Elsie, Faye, Alesia, Saharsh, Sohansh, and Bailey who have celebrated their birthdays this week or will be celebrating over the weekend.

COLLECTING CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL

General collection procedure
Parents will promptly collect pupils at the end of the school day, which is 3:20pm, from classroom doors. Parents will be made aware of what is expected of their behaviour when they are collecting pupils, e.g. that the school is a smoke-free zone.
Staff members will supervise all pupils until they have been collected, accounting for the school’s late collection procedure. Sufficient staff to pupil ratios will be met at all times during the collection process.
Parents will be advised to be mindful of where they are parking when collecting their children so as not to disrupt traffic or block access.
Pupils from year 6 will be allowed to travel home on their own with written permission from a parent.
Collection of pupils from Reception-Year 5 will be made by the parent or an agreed adult or an older sibling of secondary school age (with parent’s permission). This also applies to bringing children into school. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an appropriate adult until classroom doors are opened.
Staff members will not release a pupil if it is felt that the parents are not in a fit state to ensure the pupil’s safety or if the pupil shows signs of distress or anxiety. In these cases, the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy will be followed and children’s social care, and the police if appropriate, will be contacted.
Pupils will only be permitted to leave the premises with adults who are registered with the school as a person with collection responsibility and who has the child’s password.

After-school club collection procedure
Following after-school clubs and extra-curricular activities, children are collected via the main entrance.
Where after-school club provision is provided by an external organisation, it will be the responsibility of that organisation to implement an appropriate process for the collection of children.

Late collection procedure
Parents will notify the school at the first possible opportunity if they believe they will be late to collect their child.
The school will allow for a 10-minute window for late arrival. If a pupil has not been collected 10 minutes after the specified collection time, a staff member will telephone emergency contacts.

Meet the staff

Finally...

In a week where we have focused more than ever on striving to be happy and musical I would like to wish everyone a weekend where you....

"Do more of what makes you happy."

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children's best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm.  If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
