Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Newsletter

This week has been another sunny and cheerful one in school. Tuesday afternoon proved particularly popular with children completing a range of Easter themed activities in their House teams. Our House team events enable the children to really interact with other children from across the school who are in the same House. We see the benefits of this, especially with how our older children support the younger children with their learning.

We have also had some amazing work experience pupils in school this week- they appear later on in this newsletter. We are especially proud of them because all of them are past pupils who have loved returning to their roots and throwing themselves back into Primary School life!

Nest week is the final week in school before we break up for a two-week Easter holiday. The week will end with an Easter Achievement Assembly at 9am on Friday 11th April- hope to see you there!

Happy Birthday to you...

Sending Birthday wishes to Ivar-Jack, Ella and Eshaal who have celebrated their birthdays this week or will be celebrating their birthday over the weekend.

Being responsible with our waste!
As of this week, new waste and recycling regulations legally require businesses- including schools- to separate their waste into specific categories for recycling. Therefore, we are going full steam ahead with our recycling efforts!

We have separate bins for everything now- including food!

As a result, we are asking children who bring packed lunches to take home their rubbish. This will allow for a much smoother process for our recycling system in the dinner hall. It will also inform you as parents exactly what your child has eaten.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Work Experience

This week, we have had six Year 10 students from The Crestwood, completing their work experience placement with us.  They are all ex-pupils and it really was lovely to see them back.

They have done a fantastic job - could we see them as teachers one day?

Pastoral Update

The sun has shone down on us all week bringing smiles to us all. Let's hope it continues.

EMOTION COACHING
This week we would like to pass on a strategy when managing BIG emotions with your children.  This is something we use in school with our children and the results are amazing. Emotion coaching is such a powerful way to connect with your child and support their behaviours and emotions.
So here we go...

  1. Notice your child's behaviour and tune-in to the emotion they're feeling.
  2. Connect with your child and recognise that emotional times are opportunities for nurturing and teaching.
  3. Listen empathetically and validate your child's feelings.  Give time and space if needed.
  4. Help your child to name/label their emotion - "I can see you are feeling frustrated/angry/sad etc.
  5. Alongside your child set limits on your child's behaviour - "We can tidy up together when you are feeling calmer."  or "We can talk about this when you feel ready, I'm here for you?"  Work through the problem together, giving strategies to support their emotions - "Would you like to hug your favourite bear?" or maybe "Let's count to 10 and take some deep breaths together, this will help to make your feel calm."

Here's a short clip explaining Emotion Coaching.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine, look after each other.  Lots of Love The Pastoral Team xxx

Crestwood Park Garden!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated gardening equipment for school.

This week, the children have been keeping a close eye on their plants, making sure they have been watered and are getting enough sunshine.

Our gardening challenge -  we’re asking for children to grow something at home and then bring it in to be planted into our garden after the Easter holidays. It could be a fruit, vegetable, herb or flower, anything at all. This will help kick-start the garden to get it looking as healthy as possible, as well as giving children the experience of growing something for themselves.

Many thanks,

Mr Powell

Amazing Minority Instrument Project – 9 free instrumental lessons!

Dear Parent/Carer,

Starting after Easter 2025 we have an amazing opportunity for any KS 2 pupil to learn what are known as minority instruments. These are instruments usually found in an orchestra that are dwindling in number – cello, double bass, oboe, bassoon, euphonium and tuba.

Over the next 9 weeks we will run beginner group lessons on a Monday or Tuesday at our music base at Cable Plaza on the Waterfront near Merry Hill. Each lesson will last for 25 minutes. The children will all be beginner students and learn how to play a musical instrument in a fun, relaxed group environment. All the instruments will be provided, and they will be able to bring their instrument home every week to allow them to practice and try new things!

Sessions will take place on the days and times below, starting from the week beginning 28th April. Spaces will be limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. To take up this fantastic offer please click on this link and complete the necessary information.
