Home Learning Week 7 1/3/21

Good Morning Reception Class,

I hope you have all had a productive week of home learning last week. We are now entering week 7 of home learning which will be our last week. We can't wait to welcome you all back to Reception class on the 8th March. This Thursday is 'World book day'. We will be celebrating this in school the week we return. However, I have also included some ideas for activities you might like to try at home. This week we are going to continue to think about castles, princess and knights and dragons. Our story focus is  'Zog' so lots of the activities below relate to this. The expectation is that all children at home attempt the daily maths and phonics on the class page. I have also put some daily activities on Purple Mash. Enjoy your last week of home learning! I can't wait to see you all!

Please continue to share your home learning on Tapestry so that I can see what activities you are doing at home. This should include some activities listed below. If you are unsure of your login or password please email me on gmorgan@crestwood-p.dudley.sch.uk . You can also email any questions or concerns and I will get back to you either via email or by phone. Please let me know if the work is too easy or too challenging so that I can give you suggestions to adjust the work accordingly. Thank you again parents/carers for supporting the children so wonderfully. Enjoy your last week of home learning! I can't wait to see you all next week in school! Our Teams meeting this week will be on Thursday at 4.30pm again. See you then!

Phonics

This week in phonics we are continuing to learn the phase 3 sounds. We will be learning to recognise and articulate the 'y' 'z' and 'zz'' sound and read simple words containing these sounds. Before each phonics session watch the jolly phonics video to practise the sounds you already know.

Monday

Introduce the y sound. Look at the grapheme of the sound (link below) and watch the video below to ensure you are saying it correctly. Can you think of any words that begin with the y sound? Can you go on a sound hunt in your house and find some objects that begin with the y sound? Can you make the letter shape?

Have a go at the y workbook below.

Tuesday

Today we are going to try and read some simple words containing the y sound and other sounds you know. The words I would like you to try and read are: yap, yes, yet, yell, yum.

Remember to read the words you need to say the sounds and then squash them together.

You can do this anyway you would like but making it into a game often works best. Lots of you are thinking of really exciting ways! I have attached a link for a bbc bitesize 'y' activity which involves reading y words. Watch the video and then press the arrow to play the game. The game asks you to find objects starting with y and then to read y words. Remember to talk about what the pictures are and the words mean. Can you say them in a sentence? After you have played the game try to write the y words by using your sounds.

Wednesday

Introduce the z sound. Look at the grapheme of the sound (link below) and watch the video below to ensure you are saying it correctly.  Can you think of any words that contain the z sound? Can you go on a sound hunt in your house and find some objects that contain the z sound? Can you make the letter shape? I have attached an initial sound sorting game which includes the z sound and other sounds you know.

Thursday

Today we are going to try and read some simple words containing the z sound and other sounds you know. The words I would like you to try and read are: zip, Zak, zig, zag, zit, zap, Zog.

Remember to read the words you need to say the sounds and then squash them together.

You can do this anyway you would like but making it into a game often works best. Lots of you are thinking of really exciting ways! I have attached the bbc Bitesize video and games for the z sound. Remember to talk about what the picture are and the words mean. Can you say them in a sentence? Can you write the z words?

Friday

Today we are going to continue thinking about the z sound. Two zz letters make one z sound. We are going to try and read some simple words containing the zz sound and other sounds you know. The words I would like you to try and read are:buzz jazz fuzz fizz.

You can do this anyway you would like but making it into a game often works best. Lots of you are thinking of really exciting ways! I have attached the bbc Bitesize video and games for the zz sound. Remember to talk about what the pictures are and the words mean. Can you say them in a sentence? Can you write the zz words? I have also attached a find the zz word in the picture quiz and a read and race game you might like to do.

Maths

Counting

Well done practising counting down last week. This week for counting we are going to start to learn to count in 10s. This is best learnt by using our hands as we have ten fingers. Everytime we say 10 more you show both your hands. Start by  counting to thirty then extend as see if you can reach 100. I have attached a fun song below you might like to watch.

Monday

We are going to start by watching the White Rose video (Building 9 and 10 -week 3-lesson 1- link below) It focuses on 3d shapes and exploring their properties. Then try the activity from the White Rose attached below.

Tuesday

Today we are going to match 3d shapes. Watch the white rose video (Building 9 and 10- Week 3 -lesson 2- link above). Then go on a shape hunt around your home. I have attached a template you might like to use.

Wednesday

Today we are going to continuing thinking about 3d shapes and exploring their properties. Watch the White Rose video (Building 9 and 10-Week 3 -lesson 3- link above) and then either have a go at the White Rose printing activity below or the 3d shape home learning challenges.

Thursday

Today the focus is on pattern. Watch the White Rose video (Building 9 and 10-Week 3 -lesson 4- link above) and then have a go at making your patterns at home. Some suggestions are attached below.

Friday

Today we are going to continue to think about patterns. Watch the White Rose video (Building 9 and 10- lesson 5- Using the link from Monday ) and then have a go at some movement patterns or try some home learning pattern challenges below.

Reading

Also don't forget to keep reading and sharing stories. Phonics play is a great resource for practising phonic skills further. It has free access at the moment.

Children can have fun playing the games.

Also Oxford Owl has lots of children's online books to read.

There are lots of online stories. Don't forget that The National Aquarium is doing mermaid tales at 1.30pm every Friday. The link is below. BBC bedtime stories also have lots of stories for you to choose from. I have also attached a link to World Book Day free audio stories you might enjoy.

Other Activities

As this week our focus is on the Story 'Zog' I have attached the story below. Some of you may however, have this story already at home. Some of you might like to watch the film version available on the BBC. The link is below.

Maths

As this weeks maths focus is 3d shapes and patterns I have attached a knights and dragon counting activity below. Children can then also practise writing their numbers.

Creative/physical/Knowledge and Understanding

Make a flying dragon like the one on the picture below. Follow the link which will give you step by step instructions.

PSED/Maths/Knowledge and Understanding

Have a go at making some dragon footprint biscuits. Baking can be a fun way of learning about weighing and measuring, textures and food and hygiene.

Literacy/Creative

Why not transform a potato or wooden spoon into your favourite book character? Looking for a magical way to reuse a shoebox or jam jar? Try making A Very Hungry Caterpillar in a jar. I would love to see them. You can also tweet your pictures @worldbookdayuk
