I know how much you enjoyed learning about The Great Fire of London before Christmas, so here is a flashback reading activity all about Samuel Pepys' famous diary. There are three different versions of the actvity which vary in difficulty so choose the one that is right for you. There is no need to do them all.

Use the powerpoint below to begin to think about inference. Inference is a very important skill when reading. It means to look for clues in a picture or in a book to find things out that aren't explicitly stated. It is also important to be able to explain why you think the clue you have found tells you what you think it does. After you have looked at the powerpoint, choose one or two of the sheets to practise your inference skills. If you don't have a printer, you can always write your answers on a separate piece of peper.

Here are three different texts for you to read and answer the questions. The newspaper report is most challenging, 'On the River' is most accessible and 'Pete's Silver' is somewhere in the middle. You can have a go at all three or choose the one that is most appropriate to you. If you don't have a printer then you can read it on screen and answer the questions separately. Be aware that the answers are on the second page, so don't cheat!!
