Welcome to

Crestwood Park Primary School

Be the best you can be

Welcome to our Weekly Newsletter!

We haven't ended Friday in the usual way this week- we were planning to have our Year 2 class assembly this afternoon but with so many children off, we decided to postpone the event. Fingers crossed we will have a full class soon and can reschedule, as soon as possible.

We had a visitor in school today- Mr David Lawrence. He visited all classes and talked to lots of children about their work and their learning. Mr Lawrence finished off the visit by telling us how impressed he was by pupil's behaviour, their super relationships with staff and their engagement and enthusiasm for their learning. So very well done children - we are incredibly proud of you all!

We take our SPARKS values very seriously in school, so it's lovely to see that visitors can spot these qualities in our pupils...and if you can't remember what SPARKS stands for, then ask your children!

A message from our School Newspaper Team...

We are looking for budding journalists to help produce an edition of our school newspaper this term.  If you would like to write an interesting article, story, poem or fact file we would love to receive them.  We know there are lots of incredibly talented artists in school and we would love to showcase some of your artwork as well. Please either bring your submissions into school or alternatively they can be emailed to skovacs@crestwood-p.dudley.sch.uk

If you would like to have a go at being a reporter for school which would involve interviewing visitors, let me know.

We can’t wait to see what you can do! Ms Kovacs x

COVID News/Updates

What to do if your child develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID 19)

The main symptoms of Covid-19 are a new, continuous cough, or a high temperature, or a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia). If your child develops any of these symptoms, they should isolate immediately and arrange a test via www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.

In addition to the above main Covid-19 symptoms, if your child develops any of the following symptoms, it is also recommended they arrange a PCR test: loss of appetite, sore throat, extreme tiredness, sneezing, headache, diarrhoea, joint or muscle ache, vomiting, nausea, rash, runny nose or congestion. This is because these other symptoms have also been linked to Covid-19 infection. Individuals with any of these other symptoms (apart from diarrhoea and vomiting) can carry on attending school if they are well enough to do so. For more information please visit www.dudley.gov.uk/coronavirustesting

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness

If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/. If you are concerned about your child's symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

New rules from Monday 17th January 2022

  • People self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative on both day 5 and day 6 and do not have a temperature, from Monday, 17 January
  • Individuals who are still positive on their rapid lateral flow tests must stay in isolation until they have had 2 consecutive negative tests taken on separate days
  • This will support essential public services and keep supply chains running over the winter

From Monday 17 January, people with COVID-19 in England can end their self-isolation after 5 full days, as long as they test negative on day 5 and day 6.

The decision has been made after careful consideration of modelling from the UK Health Security Agency and to support essential public services and workforces over the winter.

It is crucial that people isolating with COVID-19 wait until they have received 2 negative rapid lateral flow tests on 2 consecutive days to reduce the chance of still being infectious.

The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. If an individual is positive on day 5, then a negative test is required on day 6 and day 7 to release from isolation.

It is essential that 2 negative rapid lateral flow tests are taken on consecutive days and reported before individuals return to their job or education, if leaving self-isolation earlier than the full 10-day period.

For instance, if an individual is positive on day 5, then a negative test is required on both day 6 and day 7 to release from self-isolation, or positive on day 6, then a negative test is required on days 7 and 8, and so on until the end of day 10.

Those who leave self-isolation on or after day 6 are strongly advised to wear face coverings and limit close contact with other people in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, work from home if they can do so and minimise contact with anyone who is at higher risk of severe illness if infected with COVID-19.

The default self-isolation period continues to be 10 days, and you may only leave self-isolation early if you have taken 2 rapid lateral flow tests and do not have a temperature in line with guidance.

Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said:

After reviewing all of the evidence, we’ve made the decision to reduce the minimum self-isolation period to 5 full days in England.

These 2 tests are critical to these balanced and proportionate plans and I’d urge everyone to take advantage of the capacity we’ve built up in tests so we can restore more freedom to this country, whilst we are keeping everyone safe.

Existing public health measures remain in place, including:

  • staying at home if you feel unwell
  • getting a test if you experience any COVID-19 symptoms
  • wearing a face covering in crowded, enclosed spaces
  • working from home if possible
  • maintaining social distancing and regular hand washing
  • taking up the offer of the free COVID-19 vaccine

SEND Re-Visit - Dudley Borough

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission have announced (17 January) that they will
be carrying out a re-visit to Dudley on 31 January.

The purpose of the re-visit is to determine whether the local area has made sufficient
progress in addressing the areas of significant weakness detailed in the written
statement of action (WSOA) that was approved by the Department for Education in
December 2019 following the borough’s joint local area SEND inspection in May
2019.

More information and details on how parents/carers can get involved can be found on the documents below.

And finally,

It's been an interesting week! Many of you have been affected by COVID in one way or another- also, you may have noticed that we have a good number of our staff absent too. Whether you are an isolating pupil, parent or member of staff, we are missing you all, we wish you a very speedy recovery and we can't wait to see you back in school as soon as possible!

Take care all x
