English grammar, reading and spellings
Hello children! Today's English is is the final step in your apostrophes work. It'll introduce contracted words (two words put together such as it is - it's) and it'll see if you can tell how apostrophes have been used.
Remember, choose the level of activity you think is best for you! Look at the examples questions on the ppt pdf document to see what type of questions you might get and the answers - would you have got the questiosn correct? Then have ago at the fluency tasks yourself.
Today's reading activity continues my theme of wolves in stories. It builds on the comprehension questions you had yesterday about the front cover of a book. Watch the video and consider the questions linked to the opening of the story.
Maths - flash back learning continued...
Today, I'd like to flash back to rounding, something most children forget over time. I have attached a video which reminds you how to do it and four activities. Select which activity is best suited to you - can you go all the way to mastery? I've attached a place value grid for you to think carefully about the numbers you choose - if it helps, use it.
If it helps you to remember, we discussed the rounding friend "Majjjjiiiiccc" who was the special number 5. Remember 'majic' likes to have fun with his friends so "5,6,7,8,9 go up to party all the time" but "4,3,2 and 1 stay down because they don't party with anyone!"
Lastly, remember when rounding down you stay on the value you are on, not the one before. For example 22 rounds down to 20 not 10 - some of you struggled with this before.
Try your best!
Art - Tessellation
Last week we looked at tessellation in art and you should of attempted a simple tessellating pattern. Today, I have provided a video about M C Escher, a famour artist who combined tessellation and mathematics together.
Escher makes use of live creatures within his work and so one challenge today, linked to our English, is to use the wolf template provided to make a tessellating pattern. The shape may need some twisting and turning to fit all of the wolves in, but it should fit perfectly - trace around the outline so that you can colour the wolves in, otherwise they will all be black and you wont be able to see the wolves clearly!
If you cannot print this out then don't worry! Have a go at drawing your own tessellating patterns which contain animals - draw the animal of your choice, cut it out and trace around it on paper. Decorate the animals in which ever colours you like but try to make it bold and stand out! I've provided some examples for you to look at. Remember, art is all about having a go so just try your best and keep it as simple as possible.
