A Message from our School Governors
The governors would like to wish all children, parents and staff a happy summer holidays! Although most people know that the governors play a role in the way school is run, you may not be aware of the sorts of things we do. We hope that this will be the first in a series of termly updates to let you know what the governing body have been up to this term. We are a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers who support Mrs Stowe and the staff to plan the long-term decisions and direction of the school and to evaluate its progress. Some of the things we have been up to this term include:
• Monitoring of health and safety, including the approval of new fencing between the car park and footpath to ensure that our children can safely walk in to school
• Financial Monitoring, including the approval of next year's financial budget and evaluating how the school fund spends money from your fundraising
• Visiting school to observe meetings, book trawls and classroom open days as well as sharing in events such as the recent picnic and summer fun afternoon
• Building links with other local schools so that the staff and governors can share ideas
• Attending training courses on financial management, safeguarding and recruitment to keep up to date with the latest changes in law and education
• Continuing to work in partnership with Poppyfields
The Governing body is made up of staff, parents, and co-opted governors (people from the community who have skills that will help to contribute to the success of the school). Our details are on the school website so feel free to stop us for a chat if you would like to know more about the role of the Governors in school. Finally, we would also like to thank the children, parents and staff for all their hard work and support which has made this school year one of the best ever! We look forward to seeing you all back in September, healthy and relaxed and hopefully having enjoyed some summer sunshine!
Parent Voice
All staff and pupils would like to say a huge "THANK YOU" to all members of our Parent Voice group for all their hard work and support during the last academic year. Their raffle prize collection skills are fast becoming legendary and all children have been given the opportunity to enjoy film nights and discos. Parent voice members have given freely of their time for these events and deserve our grateful thanks.
If any other parents would like to consider becoming members of this happy little band, please pop into the school office, see Mrs Cooper on the playground or visit our website where you will find more information.
Year 6 Enterprise
The last couple of weeks, Year 6 have been taking part in their Mini Enterprise. A small business, supported by school, to give them an insight into the design, manufacture and sales of various products they themselves decided to make. Year 6 will be selling the fruits of their labour after school on Monday 17th July on the Key Stage Two playground outside their classroom. Please bring a little cash with you to support their venture.
Water Safety During the Holiday Period
Dudley Safeguarding Children Board recognises the need to provide water safety advice to children all year round but particularly as the summer holiday approaches. Schools are asked to remind parents to make sure children only choose to swim at a local swimming pool where lifeguards are on duty. There are no lifeguards at quarries, lakes, reservoirs, canals or rivers.'
Can parents also be asked to read the Dudley Safeguarding Children Board water safety campaign posters which can be downloaded from the attached web page, http://www.dudley.gov.uk/community/initiatives/health-wellbeing/the-sun-is-shining/
