Be the best you can be

Crestwood Park at the Houses of Parliament!

After submitting a short paragraph to 'First News' newspaper, we were over-the-moon to find that our school had been chosen to take part in the EU Referendum Debate. Only 20 schools were chosen to attend the debate in 'Speaker's House' which is part of the Houses of Parliament, London.

Choosing which chidren to take was very difficult indeed. We decided to speak to Year 5 and 6 about the Referendum and both classes had debates. It was fantastic to hear that our children had plently of questions and also some passionate opinions about whether we should remain in Europe. After the class debates, we selected 5 children: Brooke, Liam, Liberty, Blake and Olivia.

'First News' then asked all children who were going to London, to submit a 1 minute video on why they should be chosen to speak. Four of our children submitted a video and we were absolutely thrilled to bits when we found out that Brooke had been chosen! She was given a brief about the topics she should discuss and was also given the important role of summing up for the 'out' campaign!

The visit to London was a fantastic experience for the children; the train journey, the tube, having bags searched at The Houses of Parliament... even crossing the road in central London! When it came to the actual debate, Brooke was fantastic! After a few initial nerves, she found her feet and delivered her speech with care and confidence. We are all incredibly proud of the children and the way they conducted themselves during the day. They really were fantastic advocates of Crestwood Park.
